If you are a Christian, have you ever woke up in the am just amazed at God’s faithfulness? You probably know the relevant Scriptures that remind you that he will keep you and never forsake you, however, isn’t it overwhelming actually know this truth experientially?
God is patient, gracious and merciful amid my sinful immaturity. He tenderly supports me like a weak stem of a young plant. He carefully waters, nourishes, and protects me. He loves his children. I think this realization is part of what led the Apostle to say, “I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.” (2 Tim. 1:12).
God is able to keep his people because he is all-powerful. Nothing can thwart his will. It is because of the work of Jesus that God is willing to keep us. Jesus’ life, death and resurrection are the basis for our continual acceptance with God. Christians are never forsaken by God because Jesus was forsaken by God for us. And now, the Father continues to apply the all-sufficent, eternally satisfying, God-glorifying work of Christ to sinners like us. It is this basis that moves the will of God in concert with the power of God.
I am amazed therefore because of my own weakness and my own sinfulness. This God loves me. He keeps me. Everyday he upholds his children by his own power with unflinching resolve on the basis of Christ’s work for us.
It is good to be reminded and refreshed by this truth.
